Renewal of the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) On June 29, 2015, President Obama signed into law a bill (H.R. 1295), that reauthorizes the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) (which expired on July 31, 2013) through Dec. 31, 2017. Under the new law, duty reductions under the GSP program will begin 30 days after the law is enacted, which is effective July 29, 2015. H.R. 1295 also extends duty reductions retroactively for any goods entered in between July 31, 2013, and the effective date. This excludes goods that entered from Russia, which formally graduated from the GSP program on Oct. 4, 2014, and any other countries that are no longer eligible for GSP benefits, such as Bangladesh.

CBP Stops Thousands of Unsafe Hair Dryers
(Monday, February 13, 2012) Washington — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized thousands of hair dryers recently that were determined to constitute a “substantial product hazard” under U.S. law, for failing to have adequate immersion protection. The potentially dangerous hair dryers were identified through a nationwide targeting operation by the CBP Import Safety Commercial Targeting and Analysis Center (CTAC).

Counterfeit Perfume Seizures Total $51 Million
(Tuesday, February 07, 2012) Washington—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized imports of counterfeit perfume valued at nearly $51 million during fiscal year 2011.
Counterfeit perfumes are a form of theft from the brand owner, and protecting American intellectual property is a priority for CBP. In addition to the economic harm, counterfeit perfumes are also often contaminated with unknown chemicals that can cause serious injury.

Section 301 - Tranche 3 Duty Exclusions |
On August 7, 2019, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announcing the decision to grant 10 duty exclusion requests for Section 301 Tranche 3.
Tranche 3 duty exclusions are effective for specific goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on September 24, 2018.
